Middle Tennessee joined Conference USA in 2013, while Western Kentucky was added in 2014.
However, McMurphy reported that the conference is talking with numerous FCS schools and is considering independents UConn, UMass, Liberty and New Mexico State as potential football-only members. So it may become difficult for C-USA to remain a conference, considering it would need to find a ton of replacement programs for the future. Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, UAB and UTSA are leaving for the AAC, while Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Miss are joining the Sun Belt. Once these moves are official, the MAC will have 14 schools, while Conference USA will be down to 3 - Florida International, Louisiana Tech and UTEP.Ĭonference USA has already lost 9 schools over the past 2 weeks.
According to Brett McMurphy of Action Network, Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee are “likely” to join the MAC, potentially by the end of the week, pending approval of the MAC presidents.
